Baked Figs in Muscat Wine
Serves: 4
Preparation time: 15 min.
Figues au Four, a delicious dessert from the Provence. Figs are a favorite fruits of the Provence during summer. Especially juicy and sweet are the Madeleine des Deux Saisons variety, which produces large figs twice a year. The color outside is a pale green, inside it changes from pale at the edges to a deep red.
I use 1 1/2 to 2 figs per person, cut in half lengthwise. So for 4 persons you will need 6-8 figs.
Ingredients:
- 6 - 8 ripe but still firm figs
- 2 tbsp Muscat de Beaumes de Venise or any other sweet dessert wine
- 4 tbsp (1/4 cup) lavender honey from the Provence or your local honey (not the standard supermarket variety please)
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F). Wash the figs and cut them lengthwise. Arrange the halves close together in a baking dish with the cut side up. Sprinkle the open halves with the 2 tbsp of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise and drizzle the lavender honey over the top. Bake for about 7 min. or longer depending how ripe the figs are. They should be soft but not fall apart. Serve hot from the oven. A scoop of vanilla ice cream gives it the extra touch.
